Just to be divergent, I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions. Deep down inside, I know I won’t go to the gym every day in January. So why resolve?
But there is one thing I intend to do as the New Year dawns — sponsor a child through ChildFund.
There, I’ve said it in black and white. It’s out there, so I know I’ll hold myself accountable.
It’s something I’ve been planning to do since joining the ChildFund staff this past fall. Child sponsorship is key to our mission, and I believe this personal connection with a child in another part of the world will bring context to my work — and be a personal joy.
So as my husband and I sit down to review the Sponsor a Child section of the ChildFund Web site, I invite you to do the same.
With so many children waiting with open arms, I can’t procrastinate any longer. To me, it’s the perfect way to close out 2009 — with hope for a better world in 2010.
